How the age gap is calculated

The calculator counts the whole years, months and days between the two birth dates, exactly like counting someone’s age. It also shows the gap in total days and weeks, and which person is older.

Example: Anna was born on March 3, 1992 and Ben on November 20, 1995. The age difference is 3 years, 8 months and 17 days.

The “half your age plus seven” rule

A popular rule of thumb says the youngest socially accepted partner age is half your age plus seven years. For a 30-year-old that is 30 ÷ 2 + 7 = 22. It is a joke rule, not science – but it is fun to check, so we show it for both people.

Is there an ideal age gap for couples?

Studies of married couples find that most partners are within a few years of each other, and the average age gap in heterosexual couples in the US and UK is roughly two years. Shared values and communication matter far more than the number.
